Monument, known as Monas monument Monasterletak or Monas Square,
Central Jakarta, was built in 1960. National Monument is one of the
monument erected to commemorate the resistance and struggle of the
people of Indonesia against the Dutch colonialists.

At the top of the National Monument are cup-shaped flame torch bronze
prop weighing up to 14.5 tons and 35 kg gold plated. Torch or flame
burning is a symbol of the spirit of the struggle of the people of
Indonesia who never goes out in achieving independence. It is said that
when Indonesia celebrates 50 years of independence in 1995 a number of
Indonesian businessmen donate gold so that the total weight of the gold
that coats the flame of independence at the top of Monas to 50 pounds.
National Memorial was built on an area of 80 acres. The architect who
designed this monument is Soedarsono and Frederich Silaban, a consultant
Ir. Rooseno, began construction in August 1959, and officially opened
August 17, 1961 by President Soekarno. Monument was officially opened to
the public on July 12, 1975.
The court with a peak of 11 meters x 11 meters can accommodate as many as 50 visitors. At around the body evelator there is an emergency staircase made of iron.
